The Weston Historical Society

History

The Weston Historical Society Inc. is a private, non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers. It was founded in 1963 at the time of the town's 250th Anniversary. Click here for historical information about the Society and how it differs from the Weston Historical Commission, which is part of town government.

Our Mission

Our mission is to collect, preserve, and make available artifacts relating to the history of Weston, and to educate residents about our community heritage.

Collections

The Society’s collections include objects, photographs, books, and archival records and memorabilia.

Programs and Exhibitions

The society fulfills its educational mission through lectures, publications, our website, and exhibitions such as Artists Look at Weston and our acclaimed tercentennial exhibition The Farmers' Precinct: Three Hundred Years of Weston History."

Our Funding

Funding for the Weston Historical Society comes primarily from membership dues and additional member contributions. Your membership is vital to our mission. For special projects we seek special gifts and grants. The society also has a small endowment.

Headquarters

The Weston Historical Society is located in the Josiah Smith Tavern, 358 Boston Post Road, across from the Weston Town Green.

Exhibits

The Weston Historical Society maintains display cases in the Weston Public Library reading room and Town Hall first floor hallway. New exhibits go first to the library and, approximately six weeks later, to the Town Hall.
